A Journey of 1000 Miles Starts with a Single Step

(and if you don't know who said that, I'm not telling).

Some pictures from the train: colorful bags piled in the passenger car, primitive but adequate toilet facilities, and a view of rural Connecticut during an unscheduled stop "because the air hoses weren't working.

Below that, some exotic food from the Stage Deli in NYC.

Ever since my mother died it has seemed very strange, especially when I go away with both Naomi and Kate, that there's no one I have to tell that I am away. My brother and I have agreed on a 250 mile rule. No obligation for me to tell him if I'm in NYC or for him to tell me if he's in Rio but beyond that we have to let each other know where we are so each of us can, as appropriate, feel relief that the other has not been a victim of fiery airplane crashes, muslides, or terrorist attacks. So, all the more thanks to Susan, Sarah, Lisa and Jim for send offs and the mild reassurance that at least a few people have noticed that we left.

By the time I put up my next post--which will include actual pictures of Bangkok--I may have figured out a better format for the blog.

  1. I definitely noticed that you left! It's great to hear about your trip, can't wait to follow you through Asia. Let's see some pictures of the two of you.

  2. That soup looks like a backed-up toilet. And there isnt much of it, either!

You are all ready for southeast asia.
